París: primeras impresiones / Paris: first impressions

I have been in Paris for one week, although I feel as if I had been here for a very long time. The first days were a little hard, especially because speaking in French was very difficult for me at the beginning. After spending three months in Glasgow, my head had decided to keep on thinking in English. However, thanks to my flatmates, the task of understanding and speaking the language of Molière is becoming easier and easier. Apart from that, this week I have discovered a lot of things.

First, my home. I live in an apartment next to Montparnasse train station with a French guy and a French girl: Akos and Christelle. Amélie currently lives here too, as she is going to study in Paris for some weeks. I think that I am lucky, as the three of them are very nice and talk to me all the time (and they do not mind repeating something that I have not understood). My room is big and bright, and little by little it is starting to feel like home. There are some supermarkets and shopping centres in the area, as well as a train station and several métro stations.

Here is a photo of the street where I live, Boulevard Pasteur. I live in the building on the left.

Second, the city. I have already walked around the islands, the Quartier Latin, the Jardin du Luxembourg, the Marais, Les Halles, Saint-Germain, Opéra, Montmartre, Pigalle, Champ-de-Mars and Bastille; and I have visited Notre Dame, Saint-Germain-des-Près, the Panthéon, Saint-Etienne-du-Mont, the Sacré-Coeur and several rooms of the Louvre. The coolest thing about Paris is that there are a lot of museums and monuments which are free for European citizens under 26. And some people dare to say that the European Union is good for nothing...

Salud y suerte.

Third, the Faculty where I am going to study for one semester: the ISIT (Institut Supérieur d'Interprétation et de Traduction), which is part of the Institut Catholique of Paris. I have already registered and chosen the courses that I am going to take, and I am starting next week.

And... that's all, folks! Little by little I am getting used to life in Paris, and I think I like it.

Good health and good luck.
